Mercury Marine - No. 1 in the world

for propellers

The propeller is the single most important factor in how a boat performs.  That's why Mercury Marine has invested so much over the past 70 years to create the industry's largest and best range of propellers - more than 700 in all.  It's all about Mercury delivering the best on-water experience possible.

Best Resources
No company in the world comes close to matching the resources Mercury has dedicated to designing and manufacturing propellers.  We have our own state-of-the-art foundry which specialises in Investment Casting - the best technique for creating highly accurate, high performance metal products.  The associated testing lab examines the strength of prototypes and production props with torture tests that push the propellers to the limit over and over again.

The propellers are then analysed in real life conditions at our specialised hydrodynamic test facility, which boasts a test fleet of 110 boats of all shapes and sizes.  Mercury also has a complete materials lab with two PhD Metallurgists on staff.

Best Metals
It's simple. Better metals make better propellers and, in this area, Mercury is again well ahead of the competition with a range of unique patented alloys.  Mercalloy, specifically designed for our die-casting process, delivers high strength while being easy to use. This allows Mercury and Quicksilver propellers to sport thinner blades, giving better performance without sacrificing durability.  In the high-performance sphere, Mercury's legendary X7 alloy, used in both Mercury Enertia and Mercury Fury propellers, is 30% stronger than and four times more durable than the best stainless steel used by our competitors.  A range of other propellers are created from Mercury's proprietary 15-5 alloy, which provides an ideal blend of strength and corrosion resistance.

Best Designs
Mercury propellers provide 5-10% better top speed and acceleration compared to our competition, while always maintaining quality, durability and consistency.   That's because our propeller design team uses a total of 160 years of experience to combine the unique properties of Mercury's patented alloys with the latest high-tech computer systems to create props that out-perform.  Proprietary 3-D propeller geometry creation software optimises blade shape, camber shape, pitch distribution, blade thickness, blade diameter as well as cup size, shape and distribution.  This means we can create props for any function and ensure they excel.

Best Help
Because a propeller is so important to the performance of your boat, and because Mercury has such a huge range to choose from, we are fully organised to help you make the best choice.  Not only are our dealers specially trained to provide valuable advice about propellers, a completely new website section has been developed offering detailed pages for each family of propellers, with videos to help break everything down.

Do you have the right prop?
Virtually everything you could want to know about propellers is there for you on the Mercury website.
This new area doesn't just tell you about our products, it gives you the background on how props work and how to choose the one that's right for you.
The highlight is the newly designed "Prop Selector" function, which will easily take you through the 5-step process of identifying the prop that best suits your boat and your needs.

As we said - it's all about Mercury delivering the best on-water experience possible.
